Lisa
Kay is President of the new club in
Southern California. With her
husband Nick She was inspired by the
World Champion Annie Ellett back
in December of 2008. I have been
riding all my life and wanted to get
back into a competitive equestrian
sport, I had told Nick I wanted to
try the Mounted Shooting as I had a
neighbor that used to do it. On our
way to Vegas for NFR he bought me
Shooting Horse Magazine. When I read
the article about Annie in Shooting
Horse Magazine I thought it sounded
like a really fun sport. A few
months later I was buying a mounted
shooting horse and doing all kinds
of research about the sport. With my
horse Blue, it is by far one of
the most fun and competitive
equestrian events I have ever done!

Nick Kay
(Ground Pounder)
Nick Kay is Vice
President of SoCal CMSA with his wife Lisa, he
started Mounted Shooting just back in April of
2009. Even though he is new to riding all
together he has really taken to the sport. With
his trusty Steed Smokey, also new to Mounted
shooting, The two have made a great pair. Nick
has been in construction his whole life,
specializing in Concrete Tilt Up Buildings. As
an avid hunter the combination of the guns with
the riding is really what hooked him.

Been riding all my life...my parents got me my
first horse at age 4....but started riding
mounted shooting with my brother since 2006
after the exhibition of the mounted Shooting at
our World Paint Horse Show the previous year in
Texas. Lost my paint horse mare last July at age
28, we had had her since she was 10...she is the
one in the photo, but I usually ride my brothers
quarter horses..he is a level 3 and does rifle
as well. Been active in Real Estate sale since
1979, we use to own Golden West Realtors in
Chino, now my husband and I work for ourselves
just a family operation in Yorba Linda and list
and sell in all five southern counties but
handle primarily the north Orange County areas.
I am married for 30 years this year and a mother
of three, two sons and a daughter, a
grandmother of three ages 2, 4 & 7 and a fourth
due this month. We have traded showing all
around horses for many years to showing dogs; a
Doberman Pinscher and German Pinscher that we
have successfully done Conformation, Agility,
Rally and Obedience and currently Schutzhund
training with. Hopefully after the arrival of
our fourth grandchild we will look to replace
our horse maybe by the summer, with another
paint but an older gelding so we can get the
grand kids involved again. Hope to get out and
watch you all til then.
